The Town of Rome, Adams County, likes to think of itself as a hidden gem, but it’s no secret that the Town is an ideal centrally-located destination for outdoor recreational enthusiasts. Located 100 miles north of Madison and 200 miles east of the Twin Cities, we are proud to be the home of five world-class golf courses located within five miles. Between the newly, rapidly expanding Sand Valley and the established Lake Arrowhead Golf Courses, the Town of Rome is a haven for any golf enthusiast. In addition to golf, we have a growing trail system for hiking, biking, fat-tire biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing, plus outstanding snowmobiling & ATV/UTV trails -- keeping our trails and tourism traffic open year-round.
In addition, the Town of Rome is also home to Dyracuse Recreational Park (the state’s largest motorcycle, ATV/UTV park) and the Wisconsin Trapshooting Association’s Shooting Complex or Homegrounds as it’s called locally. Our Rome Town Center offers fun for the whole family with Papa Bear’s Mini Golf, a Splash Pad, and new park area being constructed over the next five-years with a bandshell, basketball, tennis and pickle ball courts. And we haven’t even talked about the lakes! Rome is home to the Tri-Lakes -- Camelot, Sherwood, and Arrowhead, plus our western boundary is on Lake Petenwell, the 2nd largest lake in Wisconsin.
Obviously, tourism is a big part of our industry, after mentioning all the amenities we have, but previous Town Board’s had great vision in the establishment of Rome Town Center. While our amenities in the area are really the first date to bring developers here, Rome Town Center is the marriage that keeps them here! In a Town of 2,800, we have 250 acres of land for investment and construction for those with an entrepreneurship spirit! In 2020, the Town finalized a rezoning project for the Town Center and has attracted a local contractor who is building three-four plex apartments inside the Center. And we continue to receive interest in business development inside the Center, focused mostly on retail, light industrial, and housing. Directly off of STH 13, one of the heaviest traveled north/south corridors in the state, Rome Town Center offers available, affordable land with utilities.
The Town is excited and well-positioned for the future! Having completed a Strategic Plan in 2019, Town leadership has a focused and long-term shared vision to create an attractive destination that seamlessly blends the convenience of contemporary living with the timeless charm of rustic Wisconsin.
