VERY HIGH Fire Danger & Campfire Safety

We are now on Day 5 of Very High fire danger for most of Central Wisconsin and breezy conditions and low humidity are expected to carry through this weekend. Coupled with dry vegetation (grasses and leaf litter) we are looking at increased potential for wildfires, especially in our pine areas.

Burning permits are suspended so there should not be any debris burning.

Although campfires are allowed, we are asking that you be cautious with any ignition sources in the outdoors this weekend and avoid it completely if possible.

If you choose to have a campfire, stay away from trees, keep it small, never leave it unattended and call 911 immediately if it escapes your control! Remember that even when the flames die down, your fire is not necessarily completely out. Embers can remain hot for days and have the potential to reignite. Use lots of water, drown, stir and repeat until cold.
